Agency Description:
The Oakland Landscape Committee is a community based landscape committee in Oakland that works on school gardens, public gardens, park maintenance, vegetation management, and emergency preparedness education. We assisted the City of Oakland in developing the Gateway Garden and the Gateway Emergency Preparedness Exhibit Center, which is a City park site. We are currently working on a creek restoration project and new public garden at the North Oakland Sports Field. We are leading efforts in the Highway 24 corridor to help in removal of invasive and flammable vegetation that poses fire risks, and to help in native plant restoration efforts that will reduce fire risks.

Project Description:
Volunteers will help in weeding, pruning, and if any funding or plant donations are available helpiing to add some new plants to this public garden honoring the 25 victims of the Oakland Hills Firestorm. The workday will help prepare for a ceremony rededicating the public garden, after vandals last October damaged the metal sculpture in this public garden by sawing part of it off. This is part of the 20 year Anniversity of the Oakland Hills Firestorm, and Oakland's Mayor will participate in a cermony in the garden during the week that follows.

Special Skills or Tools Required:
Basic gardening, casual clothes.
