Agency Description:
Swords to Plowshares helps veterans of the US military and their families from offices in San Francisco and Oakland. We provide counseling, case management to coordinate services both in house and in the community, employment and training assistance, and legal services to help veterans obtain the veterans health care and disability benefits they have earned by their service. We also assist with eviction prevention, move-in assistance, and temporary, transitional and permanent housing for homeless veterans with disabilities. In addition to these services, we educate others about veterans' needs and advocate for policies that help veterans.

Project Description:
Since 2000 when Swords to Plowshares expanded its Transitional Housing Program for homeless veterans and moved it to Treasure Island, the garages have accumulated a great deal of "stuff" (as garages tend to do!). The task is to clear out as many of the garages as we can to make them available for veterans recreation activities (ping pong, exercise rooms, weekend BBQ venues, etc.) and for storing things for the agency such as auction items and supplies for the Annual Veterans Day Dinner.

Special Skills or Tools Required:
Skills: some lifting and carrying things to a dumpster, possibly taking apart a large wooden "wall system" used for art display, willingness to get dirty, sweeping. Clothes for cleaning out a garage: clothes that can get dirty, that are comfortable, that

Dumpster rental, garbage bags (N=200), cardboard boxes (N=40), gloves, hat to keep hair from getting too dirty or in the way, rags, brooms, dustpans.
